Avoid Atlanta Immigration

Hi. I wanted to contribute my 2 cents to elliot’s blog. I always fly BA and noticed that there was nothing on the blog about BA. So, here is my first post. I am not British!

Avoid international arrivals in Atlanta at all cost. When I arrived there on an international flight I had to

– pass immigration
– Get your luggage from the baggage carousel
– go through customs as usual
– RECHECK my luggage
– go through a personal security check. My water bottle was confiscated
– take the tram to the the main terminal
– RECLAIM your luggage again from the baggage carousel after a second wait
– go to the car rental counter
– take the shuttle bus to the car rental lot
It took me over an hour to get out of the airport

  1. Arriving (international) in Atlanta is horrible. The problem is that even if you are just going home or out of the airport, you have access to all the gates after security. SO – getting out of the airport requires that Atlanta does the same security that they have going into the gate area. The usual – air out your feet, fill up your bladder, show your cosmetics collection to Sgt Jones of Homeland Security, etc.

  2. I live in Atlanta and use immigration frequently. I agree that this is a pain. The airport does not yet have car/ shuttle access from the International terminal. Thus we all have to re-enter the sterile area via X-Ray etc. Thus if you have water or cosmetics, you must get rid of them. Insert them to your checked bag before you hand your checked bag back over.Sometimes you lose one.
